Kids Path
Kids Path is a place were kids can go, when they are worried for a friend or family member, who is ill. Kids Path helps the kids express their emotions.
For our Service Learning project,we decided to make toys, pillows, and cards. We had made tons of crafts. We delivered them to Kids Path and the Lady there told us that they love the crafts we made.

Food Drive
In Service Learning, we started a food drive for an organization called Urban Ministry. We put boxes all around the school, one in Harris Teeter, and another in Beensboro. In the End we raised 800 lbs. of food. We were so excited that we had tons of food to give! On a day of Service Learning, we drove to Urban Ministry to deliver the food. At Urban Ministry, we got a tour from one of the workers there. It was nice to see all the workers feeding the people. I really enjoyed it and I hope to do it again.

Service Learning Camp Weaver
Service Learning Reflection
Camp Weaver
On the field trip, the Service Learning group helped create a garden for Camp Weaver because the needed one for the kids there. It will help the community by letting kids have a garden to take care of, learn about and eat. I expected it to be entertaining and very productive and it was. I tried to think that what we are doing is helping others and that I should do something to help our community. I painted garden benches, gathered tools, planted pineapples, and cleaned the chicken coop. My peers worked really hard on this project.
Someone who stood out to me was Sam, a camp counselor, who really got people to work hard but in a kind way, I think that is one of the reasons we got so much done. Doing community work makes feel good because I know it makes others happy too.
Something that surprised me was that they were planting pineapples. I just do not normally see many people growing pineapples. I was expecting it to be a little boring because I do not usually like gardening but painting was really fun. I think the garden lacks greenery, but I can not really accuse them of that. The plants need time to grow. I think that this garden will make camp more fun and let the campers have a better experience.
This is not really an issue or problem, the camp just would like a garden for the kids, and they need help to create a garden. I learned how to catch a chicken, because Jaimee, another camp counselor, taught us how. If I could do this project again, I would have more effort into painting benches at first. The first few benches were not done so well.
I thought this project was fun and it showed me how good it felt to help the community. I would like to help the community more often.Tuesday, April 9, 2013
GMS Service Learning
GMS Service Learning
Welcome to Service Learning Chat. I go to the Greensboro Montessori School, and in this school we have a class called Service Learning, where we go on field trips to help out community in need. Here I'll post reflections of our recent trips, polls, and ideas to help our community.
